Mapler Appreciation Events
As a continuation of the 2x and 3x EXP events last week as a “thank you” to the MapleGlobal community for sticking with Nexon throughout the turbulence of the last few months, Nexon has rolled out another week of EXP events, giveaways, and Cash Shop sales. Needless to say, we’re impressed that Nexon is following through on their promises and legitimately trying to engage the community with some pretty cool (and useful) events. Let’s hope Nexon will continue these weekly events in good times and bad, because it’s brought a Mapler like myself (who has been playing since MapleGlobal beta was released in 2004) back to the game and friends from long ago are starting to take notice through the MapleStory Facebook and Twitter pages. Finally using Social Media the right way. We approve.
Check out some of the events you can look forward to until April 11 below.

Dear Maplers,
April is here, and so are eight days of 2x EXP and DROP events that will help you level up those characters! Couple that with the Mapler Appreciation EXP Booster Event and thefree 2x EXP Cards, and your head will be spinning from the sweet EXP Read the rest of this entry
Nexon VP Min Kim Releases Announcement to MapleStory Community
In response to the stability issues in MapleStory over the past week and a half, Min Kim, VP of Live Games for Nexon America, released an announcement apologizing and thanking maplers for “sticking with us through all the difficulties,” adding, “Your unwavering support is what keeps us going.”

GMS: A Sincere Apology to Our Community
On Friday an official announcement was posted on the MapleGlobal website regarding the server crashes resulting in lost mesos and items. Although apologetic, the reasons behind the server crash was vague and hinted at being caused by more than just hardware malfunctions (Nexon is currently involved in several lawsuits with hacking websites). You can read the official announcement below.
Dear Maplers,
Over the last few days MapleStory has experienced intermittent server instabilities that have interrupted many players’ opportunities to play MapleStory. The cause of the issue was a result of malfunctions of certain server hardware. To identify problematic areas we had to keep the servers online despite the inconveniences our players endured, and for that we greatly apologize.
Because players lost items and mesos during the server instability, in addition to abusers trying to take advantage of the situation, MapleStory will be restored to a previous status point of 8PM Pacific on Tuesday, January 24. All items, experience and transaction gained between the restore point and before the maintenance will be overwritten. We found this to be the only method to rectify the influx of economy damaging goods.
As a thank you for your patience and loyalty we will be providing all players affected by the instability and the restore point several items and events.
As a thank you for your patience and loyalty we will be providing all players affected by the instability and the restore point the following items and events:
- All NX spent between 8PM Pacific, January 24 to 3PM Pacific, January 27 will be returned.
- Players who were logged in between 8PM Pacific, January 24 to 3PM Pacific, January 27 will receive 5,000 Maple Points.
- 48 hour Cash item extension on top of the 48 hour extension that was previously applied (total of 96 hours).
- 3x EXP and Drop starting from the end of the maintenance today to the end of the day Friday, February 3. The event will run during all hours of the event days.
- The Evolving Ring III event will be extended to February 6.
The first three of the following items will be available for one character per world on your account if the character was created before 8PM, January 24, so make space and choose which character wisely! The two Cash items will be available for one character on your account if the character was created before 8PM, January 24.
- 10 free AP points
- 1 Storm Growth Potion. This item instantly raises your character one level.
- 4 free slots in each section of your item inventory
- 1 Hyper Teleport Rock (7 Days)
- 1 Premium Cash Shop Surprise
You will receive a message from the Maple Administrator upon logging in to a character to collect the first three above, and your character must be level 15 or higher to receive them. You will receive a message in the Cash Shop to collect the two Cash items. You will be able to collect these items until the end of the day Friday, February 3.
Thank you, Maplers, for bearing with us during this time. We hope you enjoy all the events and items made available to help recover your Maple journey!
- The Maple Team -
Since the fall of last year there have been a lot of server crashes, rollbacks, and a huge influx of hackers into the community. Needless to say, things are not the same. The community is not the same and every forum, fan site, Twitter account, and Facebook page you visit about MapleStory there is a sense of helplessness and concern. We all hoped for better in the New Year, but that hope is beginning to fade.
Whether or not this is the result of hackers, incompetence from Nexon staff, or all of the above we as a community must make it clear that things must change if this game is to survive.
What changes do you think Nexon should make in 2012 to bring MapleGlobal back to its former glory? Tell us in the comments.
NXEVENT.net – A Scam To Steal Your Account and Items
UPDATE:
NXEVENT.net now leads back to the official MapleGlobal website (maplestory.nexon.net). We advise all users to avoid logging in once redirected from NXEVENT as a precaution. It is not clear why the site was taken down, but it is likely that the creator had cold feet and backed out.
BREAKING NEWS
NXEVENT.net has caused an uproar among the MapleStory community. The site has been spammed throughout MapleGlobal and players everywhere are losing their items.
NXEVENT.net (also known as maplestory.nxevent.net) is a replica of the NEXON.net website. When you visit the site, it takes you directly to a login page. Many players who have entered their information have been hacked and lost all their items and in certain cases even their whole accounts.
There are several dead-give-aways.
- The most obvious being the URL. http://nxevent.net/ is nothing like http://nexon.net/. This may have caused confusion in some newer players or those who believed it was an event page. NEXON repeatedly warns users to only trust the url nexon.net.
- The site asks you for your PIN on the login page. The PIN (Personal Identification Number) is only used in-game. NEXON has never asked for your PIN on their site login.
- If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that on the official NEXON website, the title reads nexon.net. On NXEVENT.net, the page title reads NEXON.NET. This change in capitalization further gives away the site
- Poorly designed NX event banner. It is out of place and does not fit in with the login. (see image)
- Broken Links. There are numerous broken links (and some that even lead back to the official NEXON website). Whoever created the website was either very lazy or knew that people would be too stupid to know the difference.
- URL leads directly to the login page. Not only does the URL not even have a homepage (or any others for that matter), it goes directly to the login page.
- New Official Log In System. NEXON implemented a new login system a few days ago. It seems possible that this was implemented because of nxevent.net in an attempt to further differentiate between the two. As of now there has been no official statement by NEXON America.
One of Maple-News’ guild members in our Repulse guild, CupcakexStar, was one of many victims. I had the chance to interview her.
Savage is in blue. CupcakexStar is in red.
Savage: How did you find out about nxevent.net?
CupcakexStar: People were advertising it using megaphones.
Savage: What did you think of nxevent.net when you first saw it?
CupcakexStar: I thought it was MapleStory! It looks a lot like it! But it asked for my pin…
Savage: Why did you decide to enter your information despite the site being suspicious?
CupcakexStar: I guess I was dumb.
Savage: What would you like to say to others who may use the site in the future?
CupcakexStar: It’s stupid, I hate it, and it made me sad in the end.
Our newest anchor and podcast contributor, Kari, made a short video discussing this issue. Check it out below!
To protect yourself:
- Never give away your personal information (ID, Password, PIN, etc.)
- Only login to the official NEXON website (nexon.net)
- Change your password and/or pin if you feel you have used the scam site or feel your account may be in danger
- USE YOUR HEAD!
Cheat Engine Forums Receive DMCA Notice
Popular hacking haven, CEF (Cheat Engine Forums) received a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) notice 2 days ago from NEXON America’s Lloyd Korn. Cheat Engine however, was not shut down by the owner. To avoid any legal actions, CEF’s host shut down the site and terminated their hosting. Cheat Engine made an official notice on April 25th explaining their current issues.
April 25th 2009: Hosting trouble
As you might have noticed the forum is currently hosted on a free forum, and the main website is missing a few things like the tables section.
This is because the previous host has kicked me out because of a DMCA notice without notifying me at all. (Seems that even just talking about game modification is illegal these days. All hail the emperor) So now I’m looking for a new location to host the site, and in the meantime I’ll have to do with what I can get
It is clear that CEF have no intention of shutting down. Angnetwork.com made a post explaining CEF’s DMCA notice in further details.
Why is CEF down?
Q: Why is CEF down?
A: Dark Byte’s host received a letter from Lloyd Korn representing Nexon, who cited the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and had his host shut CEF down.Q: Why didn’t Dark Byte just delete the MapleStory section(s)?
A: He had no choice in this. His host shut him down without much due notice to avoid any legal problems. He also said he will not remove the MapleStory section(s).Q: What is going to happen now?
A: Dark Byte is currently looking for a new host for CEF. If you have any suggestions around 220 EUR a month, contact him. Be sure the hosts’ country or state laws do not comply with the DMCA.Q: Where can I contact him?
A: On IRC. His username is “Dark_Byte”. irc.p2p-network.net/#cefQ: When will CEF be back up?
A: Whenever Dark Byte finds a new host. The domain name should not change, as it was not registered with the host. Update: The temporary forum is setup at: http://cheatengine.freeforums.org and the cheatengine.org domain is currently directed there.Q: What exactly was sent to Dark Byte?
A: This: http://pastebin.com/m3aa69273Q: Should I call Nexon and tell them they suck?
A: No. Don’t be an idiot. Do NOT contact Nexon for any such reasons. Your “kindness” is being misguided.
You can view the DMCA in all it’s legitimacy below.
