Nexon’s Nintendo?

Nexon has released a new game called PopTag. It has been in development for about a year now and it seems like Nintendo has something to say… (Well, not really, but this game does seem like Bomberman.)
You know the very similar retro game back in the late 1990’s? Clueless? Well, don’t worry I’ll fill you in. Bomerman is a game that allows the user/player to play as a character in a map. The character on the screen has an objective: to kill the opponent. No matter how hard/tactical/ugly the monster is, the person must fight it. The character has bombs which are used to destroy the enemy.
In PopTag, it seems like the same exact thing. Except we aren’t using bombs, but something much safer: water balloons. The objective of the game is to try to get as many points as possible and to defeat the boss before you feel like a fool standing there with monsters “draining” your life. You are allowed to work in teams.
So let me ask you, (Yes, I mean you…the person staring at the screen) do these look familiar? Compare them and see for yourself.

What do you think? Share your opinions below.
KartRider won’t return…
… because a new game is taking their place!
It’s called PopTag, a new game made by NexonAmerica.
Basically, it’s kind of like the hit game BomberMan, but replace the characters with KartRider characters.
What do you think guys?
Will this game be successful or will it be sent down the river like KartRider? D:

Blizzard Files Lawsuit Against Private Server
Thanks to an anonymous source for this link. Looks like the “Blizzard doesn’t sue private servers!” argument is now null and void.

We’ve talked about private servers on the site here before, but in case you haven’t heard the term: they’re unofficial servers, very much against WoW’s Terms of Use, that are run by companies other than Blizzard. They’re shady as get out — some make you pay (and these are not people you’d ever want to give any credit card information to), some will delete or change characters on a regular basis, and many times they’re created just so whoever’s running them can mess around with GM powers, and cheat with any items they want.
So you can see why Blizzard would want them shut down, and that’s exactly what they’re trying to do with this lawsuit filed in the California Central District Court against a company called “Scapegaming” that runs at least one private WoW server (and they’ve apparently been running microtransactions in-game — selling in-game items for “donations” of money). The law firm working for Blizzard, Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, also worked on the “Bnetd” case, which was another piece of unofficial server software that allowed players to play off of Blizzard’s Battle.net setup.
The complaint lists copyright infringement as the cause, which means they’re probably using the same argument targeted at other private servers in the past. We’ll keep an eye on this, but it’s very likely Blizzard will win this one unopposed, and Scapegaming (or at least just their WoW server) will get shut down for good.
Thanks, Phenom!

Too Much Fun?
Well we all know MapleStory is one of the most popular games around the world, but is it slowly turning into the next WoW?
Here’s an article about an addict with a serious problem:
In another crazy gamers news story, this time we go to Japan where an addicted Maple Story player goes off on parents after his parents try to disable his account.
Here is an excerpt from a column from the Daily Mainichi:
A third-year junior high school student, her son became obsessed with the online role-playing game MapleStory last fall. He had gotten good grades up to that point, and his parents, who had had high hopes for him, panicked when he stopped going to school. When they asked the game’s publisher Nexon Corp. to disable their son’s MapleStory log-in capability this past April, their son turned violent, prompting them to call the police. The boy, frantic, leaned out a second-story window and screamed that he would die if he couldn’t play the game. Worn down, his parents pleaded with Nexon to reinstate the account.
The boy now sits in front of the computer 15 hours a day. Once outgoing and expressive, now “he has a stern gaze and looks like a different person,” his mother laments. “He’s brusque with us, but sometimes, when he’s facing the computer screen, he’ll suddenly let out a chuckle…”
Without self-control, you will lose lots of time. Make sure you take a break at some point or you might end like the poor boy.
