DestinyMS: The Latest Server To Pocket Donations?
We received an anonymous tip from a former DestinyMS developer urging us to post an article warning users of the alleged malicious activities of DestinyMS owner and administrator, Duncan (known to players as Shadow). Although we usually like to have more solid information before going on the words of a single person, given the growing trend of pocketing donations we feel obligated as informers of the MapleStory community to warn the community of the possible malicious intent of the DestinyMS administration.
According to our source three of DestinyMS’ PayPal accounts were locked by Nexon. Each account allegedly contained $300.00 USDs and were released after 90 days and our anonymous tipster told us the money in those accounts was not used to pay off server fees.
Duncan is now asking for donations to upgrade the server. A total of $3,850.00
Hello all you (loyal) players!
We want to upgrade our current server into a whole lot better, and we can get a good price for a good server.
But we need your help!Current idea of Specs:
2 x Quad core E5504 2.0Ghz
32GB ram
2x300gb SAS 15kHowever, we want even more if possible! have a better connection.
The current idea is that we use this as our main server, and maybe expand it. The more players we get, the ‘cheaper’ the server becomes per player. The more we can expand.For the current plan we need about 3.000 euro (around 3850USD) to get started. There is no big rush and we can save up with money we have left over from our normal payments.
The amount might seem high, but this is for a whole year.There are allot more options available if we manage to save up more money. So we might even open up more worlds (at possibly different rates, or not GMS alike… these options are open for discussion later). But this is just an idea.There are allot more things we could try.
But to achieve this, we need YOUR help. Considering we have over a 1000 active players (400-500 online), this would basically be an average of 4USD per player. And is entirely doable in our opinion.
To donate, contact a staff member either on forums, irc or ingame for more information.
Remember, we need your help to improve DMS. This idea is not for anytime to soon, does not have to be instant, but this is what we want to work towards.
The new site will also have improved donating implemented. Eliminating any waiting times

Regards.
DMS Administration.
Allegedly Duncan is pocketing donations made by players believing their money was going to server fees (similar to a recent situation with the private Server AbideStory). It is believed this latest request for donations to upgrade the server is another ploy by Duncan to trick players into donating for the server in order to fill his bank account. We have yet to receive a comment from DestinyMS and will update this post with more information as we receive it. If you have any information regarding this article please contact us at maplenewsnetwork@gmail.com or use the contact form on our website.
Before you comment, please be aware that this post is currently based on one witness’s account and that none of this is proven. Let us know what you think.

@Savage
1st, lets think of it this way: About the 3 paypal accounts, you said it was locked by Nexon and then released afterwards when there was no evidence that the accounts were used to pay for the server costs.
It’s entirely possible that ever since Nexon checked the paypal accounts’ connection to paying for DestinyMS server costs, Shadow can’t use the funds in the account to pay for servers and etc. since Nexon is keeping an electronical eye on them.
But~~~~~~As an evil, emo, insane, & cynical person I’d have to say Duncan will make a profit out of this. At any rate, it’s a matter of “trickle down effect”.
Basically, what we say won’t change things; people will pay Shadow for the new server because
they AT LEAST THINK they get BENEFITS (in the sense that more people can play, which obviously means less dc from full server)
Of course, im 90% sure that Duncan (Shadow) will net probably a good few hundred euros. But to players, its worth it to them when they start to think the fact Duncan did start the server and the fact that better server=good
And yes, I am F.I.N.E.

Well most servers dont put all their money to the server. Only a small portion of that goes to paying server fees.All other donations goto the Private server Owner’s pocket. I do not think this is right, but that is how it happens. It is not unusual for duncan to do it, but $3850 is not how much money is needed to run a private server. I looked it up, it usually requires a $100/month fee (for a good server host, frantech for ex). Duncan might only use $200 for the server and the rest goes to his pocket. I would not suggest donating.

Again, all untrue,
We like all major private servers have had our paypals shut down, especially Shadow`, However its been over a year since shadow has handled donations at all, right now I account for 100% of the DestinyMS billing.
Cute article though.

You must really love DestinyMS.

@magikarp
If it is untrue, then feel free to prove it. Don’t attack an article that was clarified as being “alleged” and no hard evidence except one former staff member’s testimony. Your comment only makes you appear biased and lazy.

Way to set them straight Savage xD

@savage
Magikarp is still in the DestinyMS staff, he has been handling all the donations, so don’t come up with some idiot conclusion before you even know the real facts. This just shows how pathetic this site is at writing what you call “news”.

@Andy & magikarp
If you have proof, show it. If you don’t, then beat it. As simple as that. THis site is just warning users to be careful.

@Mark
Thanks for your comment. It’s nice to see a comment from someone who actually reads the post before they comment.
Everyone who is defending DestinyMS, we have nothing against you but you cannot come here and tell us we are wrong without posting proof. We are not biased towards either side and merely offer the facts that we have and allow the reader to make their own judgment on the matter. If what is being said about DestinyMS is wrong, then you should have no problem posting proof that says otherwise instead of posting shallow insults.

So let me understand this – you’re allowed to go off of an “anonymous tip” without any proof whatsoever but DestinyMS is the one who has to provide it?
So, I assume you learned journalism from the National Inquirer, right?

@Jared
We have a tip from a former staff member of DestinyMS. We have kept this person’s identity anonymous as requested.
And yes, our e-mails have been provided and those who claim DestinyMS is innocent have been encouraged to send us whatever proof they claim they have.

The key lies in the word former. He or she is not part of the staff anymore and thus won’t know what they are doing.
07 Aug 2010, 10:17 am
Even though it says in the article this is not proven, the way it is written contradicts that.
07 Aug 2010, 10:47 am
wait did you say former DestinyMS developer?
That would be iamSTEVE.
