AbideStory Owner Pockets $400 In Donations

AbideStory owner David is said to have pocketed over $400 in donations for his private server that were intended to go to server costs for their hosting on FranTech. A FranTech staff member had this to say on RaGEZONE:
Hey there,
He actually tried to ditch on us. He agreed to pay off what was left on his account (A fair amount to say the least), if we would give him till mid July to get some payments in.
I personally like David so I gave him the benifit of a doubt and worked out a deal with my billing department. They demanded I not let it slide but, well, I did as I did for many other people on these forums.
We noticed that things weren’t on our services anymore when we checked our RAM usage graphs and noticed it was lower by 5 – 6G of usage. We checked the abide one and it was sitting at only around 100MB – the amount Windows needs.
We checked the domain and noticed the nameservers were moved off of the Frantech ones and sure enough the gameserver too.
At this point all we’ve done is repo’d his domain but I wouldn’t doubt they simply go buy a new one and try to continue.
It’s a shame, I’ve tried pretty hard to help out some communities on here but even some of the more well known people on here have pulled the exact same thing. Abide is now the 3rd – 4th server that had a fair balance due and has (tried) to ditch on it.

Considering most of the people donating are kids many players and bystanders are in an uproar over what appears to be someone tricking a bunch of kids into giving away large amounts of money and then keeping it for himself. Way to make a living.

This is kinda funny because I told Fran by the end of July I would pay him back and according to the calender it’s still July 2nd.
The reason I wasn’t able to pay off the hosting costs was that Raymond Owner of AkaiMS Hacked my paypal and took all the cash out of it, now this was few weeks ago but after that It was pretty hard to get donations + Frantech VPS is very good and fran tried to do everything he can to help but our server kept on crashing when passing 500 players online so I decided to move on to another dedicated server first before paying him off. Reason for that was because if I didn’t move to a dedicated server the server will deserted and that means no Donations. If I bought the dedicated server first More ppl + more Donations to pay frantech.

Now that’s officially immature. In fact, AbideStory was ‘compromised’ slightly later from a Proxy Service under that of FranTech.ca. According to Francisco, he had no ‘involvement’, and yet I’m hearing all thish about FranTech trying to sell the database and source. This is just FUNNY. You don’t see Hostgator selling people’s files do they? That’s just a breach of their Privacy Policy.

You know, The owner of the ps is having a rough time, but if he does the time he does the crime unless he pays their company that hosted the ps and keeping it up 24/7 . I only played this ps for 1 day then it was offline COMPLETELY AND NO IT ISNT FUNNY SO GET THAT SMIRK OFF UR FACE. That is all i say.

Jonathan. You are an absolute idiot. For starters, you mean, “IF YOU CAN’T DO THE TIME, THEN DON’T DO THE CRIME”. Get it right. Also, please do not make unnecessary comments if you have NO IDEA what is going on really behind the scenes. Just to point out, the hoster that hosted them did not do a good job “keeping it up 24/7″. I might even edit the 24/7 if I were you. If you have read my comment correctly, you would have realised I was laughing at the AMAZING IRONY, at which the Hosting Company apparently has their “.JAR SOURCE” and “DATABASE”, but yet, has claimed not to have compromised the server in any way. Ohhh the irony.

Fran you have no right to sell off the database…this makes you look like a crook. Also, it is well known on AbideStory that the server was moving off your server because it was crashing so much. Perhaps you should look at giving David a credit for all the “downtime”. What happened to “unlimited” bandwidth?
You make a deal to accept payment by the end of July…then you shouldn’t be interrupting service before the deadline has past. If you weren’t paid by July 31. Then you cancel the access NOT before. The question should read…Does Frantech’s handling of AbideStory’s account mean you shouldn’t trust FranTech to host your private server? My answer is YES. Shame on you FranTech.
Get your own house in order before you start make criminal accusations and slandering David’s good name.

I’m a writer for Maple-News and all I can say is people like you are the reason players quit the game. Don’t know the situation? From what I can tell, the article isn’t doing anything but presenting the facts that are available. From what we have heard so far, this appears to be a “get-rich-quick scheme.” Instead of cursing and coming off like a total idiot who is so invested in a private server that they feel the need to freak out on people, if you have AbideStory’s side then SHOW SOME PROOF! The sad part is that people like you actually exist and this is the exact reason why so many “normal” players have quit official and private servers. Grow the fuck up.

ICY YOU grow the fuck up. I’m really pissed at the fact that this dude is posting it in such a way that it’s ruining the reputation of the server. People like me just don’t want a good community to go down. I raged for a reason. As to proof, I only have words here. Who the fuck will accept that as proof? Certainly not you right? There’s nothing else I can use to convince you guys because fuckers like YOU need solid proof that we are lacking right now!

Ruining the reputation of the server? Well, last time i checked private servers were still ILLEGAL which as far as I’m concern doesn’t really help your “reputation.”
At this point both sides of the story are present and it’s a he-said-she-said matter. When someone comes up with hard proof, then we’ll know.
As far as I’m concerned both David and Fran are crooks and are conducting illegal practices. You can argue it any way you want but AbideStory is infringing on Nexon’s intellectual property and FranTech is hosting illegal servers thus making them liable.
I personally couldn’t give a rats furry ass what happens to either FranTech or AbideStory because as far as I’m concerned both are criminals and both are stealing something that doesn’t belong to them and using these idiot private server owners and players as a way to make a “quick buck.”
If you’re going to get so upset over a private server then you need to get your head checked.

W8 i heard “its a get rich scam” this long and all u get is 400 bucks? thats not alot. Thats pocket change if your running a scam. I do believe the abidestory owner because when with fran it crashed ALOT. If it was a larger amount of money then i would believe it. But it costs too much time and electricity to just get 400 bucks.

Hey there,
We’ve had MULTIPLE people offering to pickup the database and source for whatever David’s bill has been to us. We haven’t taken any ‘measures’ to make threats to them of selling, our view of this all is simple:
- There was invoices due, lots of them
- they moved ALL of their services from us because they were turned off twice in June for not meeting agreements made with billing
- they tried to stick it out on a domain we purchased for them
- they purchased another domain after we suspended theirs to continue operations
In June our whole staff was ready to turn off David at the drop of a hat because of the tons of resources he burned and the no cash from him. I stepped up on David’s behalf and gave him extra time after not only free upgrades for a few months to free optimizing and tons of other hosting.
We went above and beyond, and even went to bat for them AGAIN when they got hacked months back. The user that did the hacking was a customer of ours that, tada, also was behind on invoices and (supposedly) hacked David to get invoice money. For David’s sake we forgave the customers invoices to get the data restored for him. The client was soon after terminated for pulling the same stuff on other customers of ours as well.
They’ve made no mention of planning to pay anything off, nor to even ask us for the current database backups that still reside on our equipment. They would rather wipe than ask which shows me they have no intention of settling.
You’re welcome to point out our IP subnets, but frantech is more than just gameservers. We host a very large proxy project under the name of “Freedur” which is allocated the IP that was used to go after David. This isn’t some small time proxy system, they have supposedly 30,000 active users! They account for a good half of the 102.0/24 subnet.
At this point I think it’s simple…They don’t pay their bills so repo their belongings, just like a bank would do. Are we planning to sell their work? No, but considering the half dozen PM’s in my RZ account, it would sure settle things quickly!
@John – They owed US $400, how much over said $400 was pocketed is an unknown
@ICY – I’m not sure what we’re stealing here or are crooks over. We’ve made our stance on emulation very clear and so has the laws of the USA. Nexon can complain all they like but there are court hearings that back our very same view. We run a very legitimate business and have for 4 years now.

Honestly I doubt that frantech will ever get their money back. This happens a lot with them when servers just walk out without paying their bills. As for the income that other servers make, $400 dollars is a little bit. I recall one server that owes frantech more money than just $400. Abidestory should not have just walked out on frantech. Hopefully frantech will get their money, but being realistic, they most likely will not.

If you’re so adamant on private servers being so wrong, why even read this post and comment on it in the first place. I don’t understand what the point of that is.
I guess you could use it to point out how bad private servers really are, but even so, the really dedicated private server players will only take the fact that Abidestory is down for now, pocket it, and go find another server to play. Maybe you’d change a mind or two. But most likely not.
Another thing, what you said about Jeremy is pretty asinine. This may be a biased statement, but as I’ve been on GMS so long, I’ve noticed that more people quit Maple not because of certain people, but because people move on with their lives, or get mad at Nexon for not being up to par with their standards. Most people who “quit” because of someone rage quit and then come back in a few days. So that was pretty out of line.
It’s amazing that tactless people like you are able to get “jobs” writing stories.

I am an AbideStory player. David actually stole 1300$ from AbideStory players in the form of donations and nexon game cards. Also the ip adress that is responsible for hacking the server and website came from Fransico. Proof that David stole 1300$ can be found on the abide story forum, and an admin said that the ip came from fransico server thingy. Much more info on the abide story forum.

Probelm is, honestly, its not physically (or in this case, electronically) possible to figure out who’s lying. YES, its very possible FranTech is telling the truth about AbideStory ditching payments, but think about it:
I play AbideStory, and frankly David does have a point. AbideStory is an alright server (i give B~B+ rating) but could be better on some things, ESPECIALLY THE SERVER ITSELF.
Now personally, better server=moar donations (simple for any admin, no?). While there is a more convincing argument on FranTech’s side, any AbideStory player can tell you the server needs to be better, so David has a point. Any server ranked #1 is obviously gonna get more donations than any other server (generally speaking, of course)
I’m simply saying that in a blog, its hard to tell whose right or wrong.
However, I’ll say this: i hardly doubt that AbideStory is up for grabs by FranTech. That seems rather dubious for me (privacy policy much, ppls?) Odds are, i give it 30% to 70% chance at the best.

*Note: Any1 here know when AbideStory will be up? If so, i beg David to change the pvp. The pvp system is not only bugged, but it translates monster dmg into PVP DMG. Simply put, I hit 900k damage on my friend. Worse, its also made in a way so that the 1st camper in the pvp areas will always generally win; pvp should have thril.
Pvp is an attraction of servers; if you edit the pvp settings and system in general i would say that you will get back up to #3 in server rankings within days.

as a former member of abide. there was a falling out i had with one of the admins of abide. i wont go into that though. but after i left abide i recieved a charge to my paypal account by either david or one of the admins. i have since had this returned to me but they charged me even after i left for a month. completely disrespectful and unprofessional.
