Your One and Only Place for MapleStory News

The Maple News Network was created in July of 2007 by Savage and friends. MNN is comprised of the main site, Maple-News.com, which is the first and only MapleStory news website. Other sites such as MapleBlog and the MapleStory Fail Blog are also part of the network in addition to news and music radio stations. Here at MNN we value unbiased news that can educate and interest the average mapler and gamer about their community and coming features. Maple News is known and respected by Nexon America and expects to expand to other Nexon games in coming months. We strive to bring you the latest and most accurate MapleStory news and bringing together an intelligent and entertaining community.

Maple-News recently had the chance to interview Nexon America’s community manager, Daniel “NXNeutral” Chin. Check it out below!

1. How did Nexon America begin and what exactly is Wizet’s relationship to Nexon? What is Wizet’s current status?

Nexon America is Nexon Corporation’s North American publishing and game service arm. We started with the localization of MapleStory for North America, and have grown to support multiple game launches in North America. Wizet is the developer of MapleStory and also a subsidiary of Nexon Corporation. The Wizet team continues to develop and add content to MapleStory around the world.

2. What is Nexon doing to provide better service for its fans?

This year has seen incredible growth for the Nexon America team. We are constantly increasing our team in all areas, including game operations team, customer service team, community management team, and more. We are absolutely dedicated to improving the experience for our players both in and out of the game, and we hope our players can see the results of that effort.

3. Many players are asking for higher experience rates. The Japanese version of MapleStory has increased the experience rates by 1.25x because people are playing more during the night time. Does Nexon America intend to do the same?

In fact, we’ve permanently decreased the experience curve overall, which will result in a faster leveling experience for all players. You can read our original announcement details here: http://maplestory.nexon.net/WZ.ASPX?PART=/Event/View&boardNo=203&contentNo=005Ug&pageIndex=1. The changes that are listed have been made permanent for MapleStory Global, so grats to all our players!

4. Private servers are a hot topic within the Maple Story community. Why does Nexon take such a strong stance against private servers?

Private servers are extremely dangerous, both for players and for the company. Many private servers are fronts for keyloggers and other Trojan and virus programs. The risks of identity theft, credit card theft, and more are just incredibly high with private servers.

From Nexon’s side, there is an incredible amount of work invested in bringing a game like MapleStory to life. We’ve dedicated time, physical and creative efforts, and so much more to the creation and maintenance of our products and services. Private servers disregard that and impact Nexon America’s business, and our ability to support our players and employ our team.

What players should realize is that the Nexon team that deals with private servers is separate from the rest of our operations and support teams, and thus doing one does not take away from the other. Ultimately our strategy in dealing with private servers is twofold: deal with the offending parties directly, and ensure our service is the best MapleStory experience that we can provide through a safe and interactive environment that players can enjoy.

You can read more in-depth information in our Truth about Private Servers post.

5. How is Nexon America planning to improve its relationship with the community?

As mentioned above, we’ve had to grow and mature our service operations to meet the demand, and that is our number 1 priority for this year. Improving our global communications is a part of that, and improving our community communications is another part. We are increasing our forum interactivity and working on addressing issues and concerns as they arise. We want to be more involved with our community and two recent projects exemplify that effort. With the Maple Watch Leaf Brigade program we have rigorously selected volunteers to help us patrol MapleStory, previously Nexon-only task. We also have Volunteer Forum Moderators dedicated to assisting the official Moderators in promoting a positive and interactive forum community. These projects are just the beginning of community involvement.

We hope this interview is an example of the increased efforts. Also, you can follow MapleStory updates through our Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/MapleWorld. We’ve also opened a new contact email dedicated to fansites at fansites@nexon.net. There’s a lot of exciting things happening with MapleStory, and at Nexon America, and we hope our players will be along for the ride.

Thanks Maple News for giving us this opportunity, we hope to talk with you guys more in the future!

    @ Respect

lol Millions of people hate them but then the thing they care and put money into is here only because of Nexon.

Would you be happy if Nexon went down if MapleStory went with it?
You can’t have 1 without the other in this situation.

Yes you can. Another company would buy Maplestory.
Whether they’d be better or worse, however, is another story. xD

    this is utter bullcrap.

they fk up private servers just so that they’d get more customers to spend money on NX >.>

i’ve personally found private servers to be more ’safe and interactive’ than official (i play official, however, for the bigger economy) ………..official maplestory’s full of scammers and messed up people bullying each other = =

not to mention some people don’t even bother hacking on private servers due to higher rates o_o

  13. MZLweasel Said,

Nice to see they finally made the EXP change permanent, but I seriously doubt it’s enough to satisfy all the good people who still play (not many).

“Private servers are extremely dangerous, both for players and for the company. Many private servers are fronts for keyloggers and other Trojan and virus programs. The risks of identity theft, credit card theft, and more are just incredibly high with private servers.”

I love how he tries to justify Nexon’s Nazi Private Server policies by trying to say they’re phishing. The people who play private servers are (quite frankly) the smarter ones. They should be able to tell a fake trojan from a legit PS. xP

The “Truth about Private Servers” Post was hilarious! “Intellectual Property” this, “Intellectual Property” that. I really like this in particular:

“Another danger private servers pose concerns the security of information. When you register to play on a private server, you are blindly surrendering your personal information to non-professionals who have no legal obligation to keep your personal information secure. There is no telling what they can do with your personal information!”

For all we know, Nexon (who has a really crappy rating from the BBB, BTW) could be selling our personal information and credit card numbers to everyone! Nexon has no legal obligation other than it’s Privacy Policy to keep our information safe. This is gold, too:

“You may have criticism towards Nexon’s games that you feel are addressed in private servers. Keep in mind that we are continuing to try to improve our games on a daily basis, which is challenging since we are on a large scale in regards to a player base. It may not be too difficult keeping 5, 20 or maybe even a 100 players happy, but we cater to the thousands that log onto our servers daily, and the millions that play our games worldwide.”

Actually, it would probably be pretty easy for Nexon to adress all the issues we have been complaining about. In fact, I’ve outlined it all before! The problem is, Nexon doesn’t listen. It also doesn’t know when to stop.

Chances are, the people who play private servers are smarter people. Which also means that chances are that people who play private servers aren’t going to play $7 for some virtual outfit that lasts sixty days. Which means that chances are, Nexon isn’t losing money on private servers. It’s just losing gameplay quality by losing all the half-decent people left on Maplestory, leaving GMS for the jerks/scammers/hackers.

  14. Vitojapa Said,

Lol…NX does have a legal obligation…and people that play on private servers suks man, on private is to easy to go to lvl200, and the fun on MapleStory is to train to trade and to make friends, but no one sad that leveling up was going to be easy.

  15. Savage Said,

    A quick update:

Keep in mind that we submitted this interview before the EXP curve was made permanent. We received the interview back after that change was made, so please excuse that.

  16. DayTime Said,

“Private servers disregard that and impact Nexon America’s business, and our ability to support our players and employ our team.”

In my opinion, Nexon doesn’t have the ability to support its players or employ its team.

“Private servers are extremely dangerous, both for players and for the company. Many private servers are fronts for keyloggers and other Trojan and virus programs. The risks of identity theft, credit card theft, and more are just incredibly high with private servers.”

They are VERY rare. It is usually very easy to tell, and most private servers ask for even less info that Nexon itself. Just username password.

    @MZLweasel
I agree completely. Thanks for making it clear for all the ignorant out there! :D I totally respect you.

  17. MZLweasel Said,

    @DayTime

    Aww, thanks! *blush*

I like how he thinks maybe private servers have “5, 10 or 100″ players. I also LOVE how he says “thousands log onto our servers daily”. Really? Just thousands!?

Wow – not only is the community in the toilet, but someone flushed the community down it as well!

  18. Darren Said,

I’d rather have 1.25x exp and higher curves because 1.25+ 2x card + 2x exp (event or family buff) = 5x. I’m pretty sure the EXP curves haven’t been downgraded by 20%. Please confirm, anyone.

Posted on August 29th, 2009 at 12:58 am

  19. Savage Said,

    @Darren

We no longer have pendants so we lost the extra 10-30% EXP which kind of sucks.

I think you can get higher with Maple Hero or whatever the hell priests buff you with.

Does anyone else see the hypocrisy? >.>
