The Maple News Network was created in July of 2007 by Savage and friends. MNN is comprised of the main site, Maple-News.com, which is the first and only MapleStory news website. No More Links For MapleStory Private Servers on XtremeTop100
According to one of our sources NEXON has asked that XtremeTop100 remove any links contained in the description and/or the title of MapleStory private servers. Thus, you can no longer directly visit MapleStory private server sites using XtremeTop100.com.
It also appears that Gold Memberships for the MapleStory section have been removed entirely.

Even though I voted that NEXON is winning the war, it’s only a matter of time before this little boost they get vanishes. Eventually, the community will grow back on them. You can kill any individual you want, but you can’t kill their group.

In a strange way, I think the private servers are winning. Calling it the reverse psychology method, but they’re drawing a lot of attention to them and making them more appealing to people trying to ‘rebel’ against NEXON.

Well, one thing IS for sure, and that’s that Nexon doesn’t exactly have the best relations with its players. When that happens, things get shaky, and people turn to private servers. Unfortunately, what they don’t realize is that some private servers are also cesspools of idiots and instant-gratification freaks, and some have less-than-stellar player support.

AFAIK, if nexon continues to mess up on customer service, Private servers will win the war, xtremetop100.com not hosting advertisements for private servers might be a good way to isolate private servers, but there are still a lot who host private servers of MS advertisement (gtop, megatop, mstop200, etc).
It’s more like a war of quality between Nexon and Private Servers, pissed off nexon users go to private servers, which doesn’t have anything better than GMS or any other official server, but they feel that they give more attention to their users, because unlike GMS and others, 5 or 10 users out of a population of 10000 is nothing, while at private servers, 10 out of 100 is a lot.
TL;DR: Stalemate, if nexon continue eliminating TopSites and enhance their customer support, probably nexon. If not, stalemate till they do it, there is no way Private Servers can beat a officia server. I wouldn’t vote so early, so I’ll save my vote.
(P.S: Searching for tops who were still working, I found a server that had the following message on their home page: “If youy name is Lloyd Korn you just violated our coming terms of service, you now owe us $1,000,000. Your mother should have given you another name! :/”, I lol’d fucking high.)

it’s not really a war, more like a “when is thing gonna end” situation. i hate nexon as much as the next person but they’re just about closing the corporate curtains on private servers. private servers can’t do anything to get back at nexon accept ignore laws. the least nexon should do to make it up to everyone (like anyone will ever forgive them) is to give at least close to decent customer service, which they don’t

Because you can’t sue private servers under international law, You can only sue private servers under specific conditions under specific national laws, and of course, it’s common sense to know that private servers don’t just reside in one country
That’s the reason Nexon no longer deals with private servers individually, not to mention, in a way, private servers do fall under the laws of fair use.
Anyways, I voted that private servers are winning the battle. If Nexon has to resort to censoring the existence of private servers, you know something is up. If they can’t fight against the problem directly, they try to hide the problem. And to every pro-Nexon activist, what does this mean to you?

I’m not as in depth and technical as u guys but we can all agree maplestory’s style and graphics even gameplay is great. Why can’t nexon just allow another server to co exist with their own? it doesnt have to be a competition but nexon is taking it too far.
I voted that private servers are winning because nexon conciders them a threat, also nexon has millions of players on MS that absolutely hate them, we’ve all seen the smega hate towards GMs.
I think the community of the private server knows more about what we want from maplestory, which is why more of us are converting away from nexon.

Personally i think that nexon doesn’t care if they can stop the private servers if people are still playing their games, they just care about money and as less and less people stop playing and moving to private servers, they would lose money and then would care about stopping the private servers.

Personally, I think that Private Servers are winning the battle. Nexon, the shit corporation, is praticially a company that advises you spend your hard earned cash on NX Cash and stuff that runs out in a matter of says. Tell me this, would you spend 10$ – 20$ and more on a game that the things you buy dosen’t even last? I wouldnt, cause i’m not dumb enough to do that.
Private servers on the other hand don’t make you spend your time wasting real money by choice to get something on a video game.. I’d really prefer if maplestory would just let you buy the NX with Mesos… That way everybody would be happy.. sort of.

Personally, I feel that the private servers are winning. As mentioned before, if Nexon is now trying to hide the fact that they exist, and eliminate a main trafficker (XTop100), it shows that Private Servers are a threat.
From experience as a Player on both GMS, as well as private servers (where I have been an admin), I have compiled a make-shift list of the reasons that players often leave for Private Servers.
• Players want to level fast
• The smaller community allows for a better time, since you know most of the people and become friendly with them
• The GMs actually care about the players. No doubt that GMS GMs exist, but the fact that over half the players don’t even know the GM’s names is a problem. When you have an immediate problem, logging a ticket and waiting 7 days doesn’t help much.
• Cash is free, and lasts (usually) forever.
• There are more events, with more interaction with the GMs, and the players have a voice.
• Customer service isn’t as bad on PSes as people think it is. The admins regularly check forums, so your complaint is seen withing a few days, if not the same day.
Call it what you will, but that’s the way that I see it. Tell me what you guys think!

Lazlo’s right. You can kill a person, but not their group. I’d take global over a Private Server any day, its just that I like learning what levels to do stats, and meeting people to put on global. Or, NEXON could just say “Look, you can use private servers, just don’t use any MS, Maple, Or Story in the server name. Do not violate copyright.” NEXON is winning this over very well. i think nexons winning and i hope nexons winning, what you people don’t understand is that yes a ps has better customer serivice because theres 10-50 people playing at one time which makes it SO easy to help somebody, yet nexon has THOUSANDS of players playing daily almost every second and it’s almost impossible for them to make EVERYONE happy, i’ve played GMS since beta, and i’ve seen ups and downs the hacker era i’ve seen ludi aqua etc come out, i’ve come to love GMS for what it is, yes i do wish there were things differently and we had things other versions had, but again nexon can’t please everyone they never will, and they never have, thats the reason thats it thats all end posts, nexon cant please everyone just accept it and grow up those who are whining about pirvate servers!

I do believe that NEXON will win eventually, I mean lets face it half the private servers
run on donations. Over the years, private servers will lose funds thus forcing them to
close down, and let’s not forget NEXON, because if the funds don’t stop them NEXON
will.

Well i have played both GMS and Private servers. But i have to say that they are both on par with each other. Even though Nexon has a slight advantage against private servers, Private servers can sometimes be better than Nexon servers. Both of there customer services arent as good as they say.The thing with private servers is you don’t need to buy an acctual server to run a server(you can use a router as a sever but thats another story). Either way both are on par with each other eagrly fighting against each other to obtain glory, too bad no one wins the fight……

Alright, let me explain something to the people reading this.
Shut. The. Fuck. Up. Nexon can not sue private server owners because the use of private servers qualifies as something called “fair use”, this makes them completely legal. The reason this works is because the name is not MapleStory™. Private servers also do not sell services/goods, any money they make is non-profitable by law. Now, when you donate, you are able to aquire some type of item on most private servers, but this is a token of appriciation, they don’t have to give it to you, they do it because they are thanking you. Just like if you donate clothes around tax time, you donate clothes, you get a little slice back.
So please, do everyone a favor, STOP saying that Nexon is winning the war, they are loseing and they can’t do anything to stop Private Servers. Just because XtremeTop100 stopped providing links, they didn’t stop advertising private servers, all you have to do is copy and paste the name into google and find the link.

TheLulzer, what you said WOULD be true. If you roll back time about 5 months ago, I would have agreed. Unfortunwately, now Nexon made in their agreement statements and policy that ANY SPINOFFS OF THEIR PRODUCT WILL BE SUED FOR LIQUIDATED DAMAGES OF APPROXIMATELY $500,000.
Because of this, unfortuneately, Nexon………seems to be in the advantage, but due to past experiences private servers will keep living on.
