HackShield: Love It Or Hate It?
The newest update in the war against hackers is the addition of a new ally, HackShield. HackShield is a hacking prevention program for online games developed by AhnLab, a Korean security company. Established in 1995, AhnLab is a powerful competitor in the internet security solutions world with more than 65% of shares in just the Korean market. HackShield is used by gaming companies like SEGA, K2 Network, and E-Games as well as MMORPG’s Cabal Online, Combat Arms, and Shot Online.
In the most recent update, NEXON America removed GameGuard, published by nProtect developed by Inca Internet Co., has been with the MapleStory for years. The popularity and effectiveness of GameGuard has been brought into question as hackers have been allowed to run freely in NEXON games and reak havoc on the community. MapleGlobal, MapleEurope, and MapleSEA all use HackShield and it is rumored that MapleThailand will be making the switch very soon.
“HackShield delivers an easy to use, flexible set of API’s which allows you block hacking route right from client system level. HackShield combined with on-going update services in 3 editions: HackShield, HackShield+, HackShield Pro.”
It is likely (but not confirmed) that MapleGlobal (as well as MapelSEA and Europe) are all using HackShield Pro, the most expensive and most effective version, according to Wikipedia and many user reports. Many users were hesitant about the switch claiming that NEXON was, “Making budget cuts.” From the look of things, HackShield is pricier than you may think (there are no prices listed on the website) considering HackShield Pro is being used.

so..HackShield is better or GameGuard?

Doubt it’ll make much of a difference… Combat Arms is a hackfest.

Nexon is getting wiser everyday. They prolly thought that hacking matters cant be controlled by software use(gameguard), so they purchased a cheaper software to, at least, prevent macros and bots, then use legal matters to prevent hackers.
But they are wrong in 1 thing– HS is much more easier to hack. There are a lot of security holes that needs patches. Now, hackers can make HS-less clients, and bring back memory edits

lol. look like they are really spending the money now. to me, i think HackShield loads faster than GameGuard.
and yeah MapleSEA changed to HackShield a few weeks ago. -.-

Well HackShield does seem to be pretty effective.
Havent seen a hacker after it was implemented whereas before, I’d see at least 1 hacker @ Master Chronos.
The only downside is that HackShield takes longer to load up for me.

@ AVIVT7 and Smiles
I was in a room the other day and it was all hackers. I was in a channel on the grunt server and well lets just say so many games with hackers.

Posted on May 4th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
actually, I heard on basilmarket, that alot of people are having trouble with hackshield … seems like it wont do anything anyways lawl just something to make people think that they are at least trying to stop hackers
Posted on May 4th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
maybe those people who have problems with HackShield are hackers.
MAYBE!

@CART
Stop being sarcastic and idiotic. Some people [ME] –LEGIT– actually are having problems with HackShield. Some of my other legit friends are also having trouble. You shouldn’t act so smug when you haven’t even knowing or experiencing the problem.
Posted on May 5th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
experienced* the problem … sorry for the grammar error :]

Aimee, i think you forgot to read his last word in caps.
Posted on May 7th, 2009 at 5:37 am
You go Aimee. lawl.
Sorry for being offensive/Whatnot.
@Patrick … wow? are you an idiot? LAWL He is totally being sarcastic and obnoxious. Any person with a right mind knows that there is a hidden meaning behind his words. It’s ok maybe you just aren’t fluent in English.

stop thinking that you are the only smart ass in the planet
Posted on May 8th, 2009 at 11:08 am
@Linty
I don’t get how Tristan thinks he is the only smart ass in the planet. I did read the last sentence in caps btw and yes Tristan got what I was saying. Linty, just because you are insecure about yourself doesn’t make everyone else in the world a smart ass.

does this hackshield thing work for private servers?
Posted on May 10th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Lol, Idk about this. My computer has been lagging alot ever since Nexon switched it to HackShield.
I have no idea why.
And the other day, my friend invited me over to his house to see him hacking on Global.
I’m not sure if it’s THAT effective.
Posted on May 13th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
hacksheild blocks my game playing it wont let me play anyidea how to get it to start ?
Posted on June 5th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Global MS is not using the pro or the + version they are sporting a evaluation copy that they are not paying for to test it out, if all goes well then i would assume they would buy the pro version but they are cheap and i wouldn’t be surprised if they only got the basic.
Posted on June 24th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
@Tristan
I have HackShield problems, now I can’t play maple, but do I go bitching at every random person on the internet for saying random crap? No cuz I have a life
Wait I would be right now…
Posted on June 30th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
i dont like it because everytime nexon puts something up and its new.They screw up and they did with Hshield. Alot of pplz are having problems and no pplz not ALL OF THEM hack. Like for me , i been having touble with maple when they put up hshield. I thought it would be my pc because it was screw up. So i wiped out my pc and started anew , i thought it would fix everything and it did but not for maple. Everytime i play random times i can’t type and when i press esc it miniamzes, when i press f4 it closes and more supid errors. i typed different methids and nothing worked so i look at hshield and i know it has to be that because the day that they put hshield up on maple it was like this. Its been a few months i did send a ticket and i got no results.

Posted on August 30th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
lol i say that nexon is either trying to do something or just scamming all of us
O.O
Posted on January 6th, 2010 at 12:10 am
ehh hackshield is failing in Combat arms(maybe other games too XD), right now it returned to being a hack fest game, I’d say its a really fun game if there aren’t any hackers(soo many gun selection >.<)
Posted on January 10th, 2010 at 3:44 am
I’ll say this. Back in 2008, there weren’t this much lag in all the servers. Everytime I log on I noticed that there were fewer peoeple in Global Maplestory, but we lagged even more. Isn’t this kinda ironic? I’d say something’s wrong with the files of Maplestory.
