Tomorrow is April 1st many events will take place,one significant event that will take place is the launch of Conficker.C! Conficker.C is a virus that was designed completely different from others. The virus does not have instructions on what to do such as: hack the computer or website,instead it reaches into the Internet and gets instructions from a list of websites that it creates. Conficker.C checks a list of 50,000 semi-randomly generated websites daily looking for instructions, so basically there is no way to shutdown every one of them.

If just one site comes live with the accurate instructions Conficker.C will keep going. When the instructions are found the virus will start infecting websites and computers all over the web. Your computer can get infected as well and nothing could be different. Your computer could run the same speed, but the program is designed to take your personal data that you fill into websites and sends it back to its masters, and on April 1st all infected computers will come into control of the master somewhere in the Internet.

When that happens anything is possible, your date can be stolen, hard drive can be wiped. and much more. Tomorrow is the day this is launched, the Internet could die, computers can crash, websites can crash, or nothing can happen at all and we could all get scared for no reason. The only suggestions I can give you is make sure your anti-virus is on and fully updated, if you don’t have one get one, turn your computers off tonight before you go to sleep, leave your computer off for a couple days, make sure your windows is fully updated to the point you cannot update anymore until Microsoft releases some more updates, and brace your selves! I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Lloyd Korn, the General Counsel of NEXON America Inc via email recently. I first spoke with Mr. Korn over the phone when we received a fake DMCA letter in December of 2008. I have spoken to him numerous times both over the phone and the internet since then. I decided to send him an email asking if he had anything to say in response to the recent Private Server closings to calm down the community.

Many of the comments have become violent and threatening. I for one respect a person’s opinion, but when someone resorts to threats and violence, they’ve gone too far. I’ll start by saying that I too have played MapleStory, longer than many of the people who choose to complain and threaten. Myself and many of the Maple-News staff have played since the early days of MapleGlobal beta and still continue to play. We do have our ideas of what can be improved and what we dislike about the game, but we choose to express ourselves in a positive manner. Now, I remain unbiased in the NEXON vs. Private Servers battle and debate. I see points on both sides, but the comments I have read are dispicable. It makes me ashamed to be part of this community when kids my own age or younger think they can threaten the lives of people without having to answer for it. These people need to get their morals straight and need to learn how to show respect for others and themselves.

Now, why am I telling you all this? I cannot reveal the whole email as it is against confidentiality, but I am allowed to reveal what Mr. Korn wished me to say. In response to those of you who threaten the lives of workers, the FBI will be paying you a visit. Don’t believe me? Here’s an excerpt from the email:

I too have been receiving violent and threatening e-mails. I’ve been forwarding them to the agents I’ve been working with at the FBI so tell these children to warn their parents that the FBI may soon be paying them a visit. The FBI takes these e-mail threats very seriously and will deal with them accordingly. I’ve also pointed them to the forums with the threatening chatter so they should take care of those people too.

Those who have chosen to engage in immoral activities as stated above will face consequences. Just because you dislike the company running a video game does not give you the right to threaten the lives of people. Those who think they are safe on the internet are mistaken. The FBI has ways of tracking you down.

Mr. Korn also went on to say that they plan to crack down more on Private Servers and hackers. NEXON has a plan up their sleeve to help to deter hacking attempts in MapleGlobal. I don’t know what it is, but it seems promising. Private Server owners will not be dealt with so leniently, so be warned that you are participating in illegal activity and NEXON intends to use the law to it’s full extent.

Lloyd also responded briefly to everyone who is upset regarding the recent Private Server closings.

Sorry to crush the hopes and dreams of so many, but people should understand that if they knowingly engage in wrongful activity, they should take responsibly for their actions and accept the consequences. Some have, but a lot more haven’t. That’s a part of growing up that frankly I don’t think a lot of these kids get. Personally, I think we’ve been too lenient with people so far. That may change soon.

The reality is that no matter what you say or do, Private Servers are illegal. There are many viewpoints on both sides regarding the morality of things and I really get that everyone is upset with how the official versions are turning out. Ultimatley, NEXON develops the game and updates it. Without them, there wouldn’t be a MapleStory to play. You wouldn’t have Private Servers. Private Servers are like programs and websites that steal music from musicians. Being a musician myself, I can relate to NEXON’s point of view of wanting to have their work respected and guarded. I can also relate to the Private Servers point of view, but in the end it’s illegal to run a Private Server because you are stealing their intellectual property, like stealing an idea from someone and using it as your own. Looking at things from a completely unbiased and logical point of view, you’re risking your parent’s financial safety (if you are sued, your parents will have to pay for any fines) and your future. It’s a game, let’s keep it that way.

All this insanity over the past few months: the threats, the insults, the blatant disregard for human emotions, safety, and respect needs to stop. This is absolutely ridiculous. It’s shocking to myself and others that people will easy go as far as threatening the lives of people over a computer game. It’s disgraceful and reflects badly on yourselves and our generation as a whole. If you want the game to change, email NEXON, post on the forums, do what you can to change it if you want it that badly. Threats don’t work, if anything it makes people even more unwilling to please you and is probably why many of the things you want, haven’t happened. Use your heads guys and act maturely for once.

Hey guys, I was searching something and I found that MapleGenesis a popular server also was took down by Nexon. Some of you may know of MapleGenesis, but it is now gone. The server ran for eleven months and was shut down. This is just another server closed by Nexon. This is what the owner of  MapleGenesis left.

The past 11 months of the server running was a great journey, i enjoyed every day waking up, coding something new, talking to players and meeting new people. I feel as though we had a good run, you cant be ashamed of 11 months being online as one of the greatest and most advanced servers out there, but I wish we could have lasted longer, but Nexon did what they had to do, which was defend their BSNS, anyways, to all the people that we have met over the last couple of months, thank you, you are amazing, and to Nexon, we understand why you did this. To all the beta players, thanks for sticking around back in the day, JesusMS ftw

Over the past few days we have received enormous comments about the recent mass closing of Private Servers by NEXON America. Although opinions sway both ways, Maple-News.com is interested in your opinions and thoughts.

Leafre.com, our forums, are down as it just received a DMCA, possibly again from Lloyd Korn, and the DMCA was sent to our website hoster. We weren’t even hosting anything illegal, it was just our opinions and free speech, which last time I checked was legal in North America and a fully lisenced and legal vBulliten license. I don’t see what laws are being broken there. Oh well what can you do, things could be alot worse and thank god that they aren’t. Well, we will try to bring the forums backup and see what Nexon wants us to remove from the forums, most likely all the private server, FinalStory related stuff.

We wish the best to everyone who played and supported us with FinalStory. Please do not hate NEXON and start bashing on them for this. Everything that they did was perfectly reasonable and they have a good damn reason to do it also. MapleStory is their property and it is their game, we made a private server of it infridged their property. I’d do the same thing if I were them, and they have every right. I’m sure none of you guys would like getting something you made stolen from you. We, the staff of FinalStory don’t want to cause any further harm then we already have done to NEXON. It’s been a fun ride guys but all good things come to an end sooner or later. We also tip our hats to the OdinMS developers and wish them the best of luck in resolving their conflict with NEXON. Let’s just hope that 2009 ends up being a good year for everyone, even with the horrible economic state that everybody is in.

Ever since I recieved the e-mail about the survey, and the Nexon focus group, and Nexon’s opinon on private servers, I’m suprised what they had done…I mean take down 5 servers in one week? and Finally something creative like the “Meeting BoA event.” Best of all, I’ve been seeing Nexon America change atleas once each day. Today, GMS made a new creative template for GMS! [Template from maplemob.com, although the site is no longer availible, Nexon still has it in it's archive.]Well you can visit the new GMS website here.
