Happy Halloween
The Community Has Gone Down The Fucking Toilet
Hi everyone. It’s Halloween, one of my favorite holidays, yet today has been anything but a blast. We’ve just dealt with some difficult things and suffered some blows. I’ve been talking to my friends and staff on Windows Live Messenger and I just need to make this post, and not to plead or be another whining player bitching and wishing we were back in beta. So, I’ll begin.
It’s nothing new to hear the stagnant phrase, “The MapleStory community sucks.” It’s a matter of opinion, but lately it’s becoming more fact. I can’t, and I don’t think anyone can describe some of the immature jack ass behavior that maplers deal with every day. In anything, you get the ass holes and idiots, especially when something goes mainstream. A lot of this is felt in-game, but even more so on the various forums and websites dedicated to MapleStory. I’m sure if you’ve been the victim of some idiot going on a rant and typing in “1337 speak” or witnessed it you’ve wanted to crawl through the internet, climb out of the player’s monitor, and slap him/her silly. This is one among many other reasons why people resort to going to Private Servers to some how “get the beta community back” or just “get away” from everyone. Let’s face it, people suck in general…but the feeling of “invincibility” over the internet doesn’t help.
In recent years the MapleStory community has entered a complete cluster fuck. The lack of manners, respect, and just plain decency is amazing. I have never witnessed human beings treating each other so horribly and viciously in my life. Sometimes I can’t believe that the people playing this game, are actually civilized humans who have a brain and the ability to choose right from wrong. What is wrong with some people? Did their parents not raise them right? Were manners and respect not on the agenda? Was there no time to tell your child to treat others as you would like to be treated. Well, wait. Who cares right? It’s just a person that you’ll most likely never see or interact with again, right? Wrong. There’s something called karma…whether you believe in it or not. If you treat someone shitty, it will come back to bite you…some way…some how…you can’t escape it. You can shrug it off, I’m sure I’ll be getting tons of comments saying “Fuck you Savage,” and “Go die you loser.” I have to deal with those insulting comments daily on this website. Maple-News wasn’t created to be a haven for whining, complaining, insulting, disrespectful, and just plain idiotic comments. You come here to read and discuss the latest news. This isn’t “Gossip Girl.” We’re not “back stabbing each other.”
Ah, fansites…fansites, fansites, fansites. What are fansites? Sites that are fans of a certain game, band, genre, toy, animal, species, etc. The fansites in MapleStory continue to fuel the fire and create pointless arguments and “dramatic” posts that raise hell. I normally wouldn’t name names, but it’s too late for that. People insult each other daily…some are dealt with…some are not. Fansite rivalries (see previous post) are amongst the most cutthroat I have ever seen for a video game…especially one called MapleStory. You have sites spamming other sites, sites advertising on other sites, sites bad mouthing and sabotaging other sites. Did they do anything to the other site? No, not always. Does it matter whether or not they did? No. If it’ll help someone get ahead, even if it means stooping so low and kicking them when they’re down, they’ll do it. And this doesn’t just go for MapleStory, it goes for real life as well. Look at our society…greed, distrust, hatred, more greed, violence, and the list goes on, and on, and on. You can look at the current United States economy; hell, the whole world! People have borrowed more than they could ever pay back, and now the global economy is in the shitter! I may be young, but I’m not rich, and I see first hand what’s going on and I can realize that it’s not that different from what we see online. The internet is a powerful thing, and lately it’s been abused in more ways than one.
To sum this long, lengthy, and probably annoying post that most of you will (or have) proceed in flaming me and this post…I’m utterly disgusted at what’s going on in the MapleStory community, the internet community, and the world. I don’t know how much more I can take of these constant comments. I didn’t sign up for this and I won’t take it. Anyone who continues to make idiotic and insulting remarks/comments, will be permanently IP banned from ever commenting on this site again (I know if you use proxies so don’t even try). Think about this next time you think about flaming, insulting, and treating someone like shit, think about what you’re doing to that person and what it shows about who you are and what you will become. Don’t dissapoint your parents and your family and friends, try to do a good deed once in a while, and above all; treat people as you would like to be treated. If anything, let us keep our dignity while playing a video game…don’t turn into wild animals.
Pirates Week 3 – What’s Next?
We’re only 2 days away from Week 3 of Pirates and so far we’ve seen 2 amazing events! If all goes as planned, in 2 weeks Pirates should be released in MapleGlobal. The date we can only estimate will be November 5th, 2008. From cool videos to mysterious comics NEXON really is trying to wet our appetite and bring back all the players who have long quit MapleStory for more reasons than one (cough Private Servers cough!). I for one can say I am intrigued by Pirates and I may even check out MapleGlobal once again to play with my beta buddies.
So what do you think is coming this week?
Previous Downtime
Hi there everyone,
I would like to apologize for the downtime that occured for roughly a day since yesterday (10/26/08) until midday today. We were having some problems when switching to our new host. Hopefully we won’t be having extreme lags during rushes of views to the site. I’m sorry that I couldn’t get an error message up at least telling everyone what was going on…but everything should be working fine now.
Again, my apologies for any inconvenience.

FlowsionMS Receives Cease and Desist From NEXON
FlowsionMS, one of the most successful MapleStory Private Servers and Sources to date, officially closed down today, October 24, 2008. No one expected this to happen…at least this soon. FlowsionMS received a notice from NEXON America and then later a Cease and Desist. To avoid what happened to OdinMS, FlowsionMS officially shut it’s doors today.
The disappointment of Flowsioners and maplers cannot be completely understood unless you read the posts on their forums. Last screen shots, insane IRC’s, screaming tantrum throwing players. If anything, we haven’t seen a reaction this big since OdinMS shut down. FlowsionMS was at the head of the active sources in the MapleStory community, which is obviously why they were targetted. They made the safe and intelligent decision to shut down.
I myself was a player on FlowsionMS. I was skeptic of Private Servers and always supported the official versions, which I still do. I was convinced to join by the FlowsionMS community when they released version .60. I was shocked…in a good way. When I joined I was immediately contacted by Ringletts who then proceeded to give me some items and money. No one had ever been that kind to me when I joined GMS. Not to put anyone down, but the community in MapleGlobal became very sour as games sometimes do when they become big.
The point is, FlowsionMS meant a lot to everyone. It wasn’t just a game, it wasn’t just a server, and it was not made for the intension of taking activity away from the official versions. Everyone, including myself, will truly miss FlowsionMS…but we will never forget the memories and friendships we made there. I know it’s corny, but it’s how I’m feeling and similar to how everyone else is feeling.
Sorry if this was more of a reflection than a news post. I really don’t feel like being professional on this matter and I hope this post means something to someone…but all we can say is that life goes on.
This isn’t the end of Flowsion, the team, or the network. Rumor has it they’re going to develop their own MMO.
MapleStory Divorcee JAILED After Killing Online Husband
A friend of mine, WhiteOut, sent me this crazy link. It’s on Yahoo…and it doesn’t look fake. Maybe they should have defined what kill meant relating to the game (i.e. deletion, or just dying from monsters). This article is either really fake or really messed up. I guess MapleStory Japan is pretty harsh on hackers (a little too harsh)?
TOKYO – A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband’s digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking, police said Thursday.
The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game “Maple Story” to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.
“I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry,” the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.
The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.
She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.
Players in “Maple Story” raise and manipulate digital images called “avatars” that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting against monsters and other obstacles.
The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married, and killed the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his beloved online avatar was dead.
The woman was arrested Wednesday and was taken across the country, traveling 620 miles from her home in southern Miyazaki to be detained in Sappporo, where the man lives, the official said.
The police official said he did not know if she was married in the real world.
In recent years, virtual lives have had consequences in the real world. In August, a woman was charged in Delaware with plotting the real-life abduction of a boyfriend she met through “Second Life,” another virtual interactive world.
In Tokyo, police arrested a 16-year-old boy on charges of swindling virtual currency worth $360,000 in an interactive role playing game by manipulating another player’s portfolio using a stolen ID and password.
Virtual games are popular in Japan, and “Second Life” has drawn a fair number of Japanese participants. They rank third by nationality among users, after Americans and Brazilians.
TitanMS Creator Arrested
I was messaged with a link to a translation of an Israeli newspaper from former OdinMS Staff Member, richan. He proceeded to tell me that the creator of the TitanMS source had been arrested and then sent me a Google translated version of the Israeli newspaper. Here’s a short excerpt of the article.
Grade k student was arrested this morning (Sunday) by the fraud unit of the Central District on suspicion that the network was able to break the game very popular MapleStory, Fri development of the company
Pirates – A way to bring players back to MapleGlobal?
I’m sure this has crossed every maplers mind. With the outbreak in Private Servers the official MapleStory versions (particularly MapleGlobal) has lost quite a bit of players. We saw this culminated when they filed a lawsuit against OdinMS.
We brought you those exclusive images of a small poster that a few players received confirming that the Pirate class would be coming to the MapleGlobal version of MapleStory. Dates have been flying around the forums and all of them seem to point to mid November. Unless a date is announced on the official site, no one can be sure.
When the fifth (sixth if you count beginners) MapleStory class is finally released, how many of you who have quit MapleStory, whether because of Private Servers or just quitting in general, will return to MapleGlobal? We’re eager to see what the MapleStory community will do.
The release will either make or break NEXON. We’ll just have to wait and see.

In a previous post we showed you all the original document of the OdinMS Search and Seizure notice. Here’s the translation courtesy of Mats of OdinMS. Our original post with a picture of the document can be found HERE.
