The Maple News Network was created in July of 2007 by Savage and friends. MNN is comprised of the main site, Maple-News.com, which is the first and only MapleStory news website. Other sites such as MapleBlog and the MapleStory Fail Blog are also part of the network in addition to news and music radio stations.

OdinMS Sued, CakeStory Downed. Who’s Next?
MapleStory forums and websites have been buzzing with the news of the OdinMS lawsuit over the past few weeks. Many have decided to shut down, while others have put things on hold. Very few continue to run their servers, which is quite a shock to many. LocalMS, a highly popular MapleStory private server with over 100,000 accounts to date, is one of those servers. One reason why the NEXON Corporation is not taking action towards LocalMS is because they took all their files from OdinMS, which was the developer of almost all the private server software and updates. You could say that NEXON is trying to cut off the head of the snake, hoping that without OdinMS providing updates for other private servers, people will just give up and come crawling back to MapleGlobal and other MapleStory versions. But like many stories and issues, even if you get rid of the head…there can always be someone else who wants to build on what previous people have done.
By suing OdinMS, NEXON isn’t really solving anything. Although they’re trying to make a point, there will always be people who make private servers for games. It can’t be avoided and other games such as World of Warcraft have accepted that. Maybe NEXON should too. It’s hard to say which private server will be next. From what I can speculate, if any other private server comes out as the head honcho amongst the array of private servers unhappy with MapleStory, they may be the next to either shut down, or pay the hefty fee of over $500,000. We’ll just have to wait and see, but this certainly does bring new meaning to the phrase “If you mess with the bull, you get the horns.”

We will NEVER come crawling back to GMS. They may think they’re getting back the thousands of players that left to play private servers…but they are WRONG. There are MILLIONS of private servers out there and they can just TRY shutting them all down…and fail horribly.

There’s no way the private server players will come back to Global MapleStory. They’ll either find another of a hundred private servers around, or they’ll just stop playing MS altogether.
The last server I was on that got shut down, half the people named off dozens of private servers they were all going to, the other half said “I’ll just take a break, and either join a private server later, or quit for good”.
So you’re not bringing anyone back, you’re just preventing them from playing, without you getting 100% of any possible money available.

What if you sued them back? You’re not making profits so they have NO right to shut down these servers. If you want, you can turn maplestory into a game no one will everplay again. Just to make sure when you do that you block/change your IP so they cant find you.
MapleStory is just a couple of desprete adults trying to get rid of these private servers so they wont have to worry about being chased out of their dreams. Don’t give up. They have no right.

To be honest, I see no reason why people play the original MS at all.

Well GuardianMS has been shut down because of Nexon. Why can’t they just come to some sort of agreement, instead of sueing them. Nexon hasn’t heard of the word compromise (or of the words technical support while i’m at it). Either compromise with the Private Servers, or learn to accept that they will exist, no matter what you do. Nexon, want to know why there will be private servers? Because Maplestory is such a grind. Almost no one wants to spend 3 years to get to level 200. That’s also why there are hackers in GMS. They just don’t know about/don’t play Private Servers. Well in conclusion, Nexon should grow up and learn to compromise, or accept a certain fact they don’t like.

IF nexon was smart, theyd offer alternate servers with different exp rates where people could take a break from grinding, or test servers where people could try out the game at any level/ job

This would fix alot of hacking issues, It’d be a brilliant solution.
Why play on a private server with half the skills working and tons of bugs / server crashes when you could play on a perfect server with a good community and good exp rates? They should even allow people to start a password protected server that they and their friends can play for like nx cash or something, cause then you wouldn’t have to worry about server hosting or any of that other nonsense. And you could set your own rates.

In my perspective, Nexon sueing Odin will not help their situation at all. The way they’re enraging us private server players will cause us to despise Nexon even more than we already do, I mean that’s true isn’t it? The only reason we left Nexon is because Nexon doesn’t even HAVE a branch in their company for customer support. If they were to connect with us players, we would’ve developed a sense of loyalty for Nexon and never would’ve betrayed Nexon.
Personally, I completely agree with the original post, and I’ve quit MS myself. I know a few friends starting it again, so I try and prevent them from buying NX. Supporting Nexon is like paying for a prostitute.

I cant say i disagree with nexon on this, nor that i can agree, i would play the normal ms, because none of you programmers, know how to incorprate new jobs, or raise the max level, or do any of that crap.
The way i see it, you just wait to try and get gms’s source, and you add crappy stuff to it, and make the exp x500, i owned a pserver once, and i shut it down, because of stupid people begging for stupid crap, and a possible revolt because i only had x5-10 exp. The only thing that i changed in my server, was i added party quests, and i made a job resseter, btw i was the original one to come up with that idea, now that i see that all over the web. any ways, they probably wouldnt have been sued had they not been asking for donations.

Okay. If nexon thinks that shutting down private servers will make people go back to global they are far off wrong. They have to deal with the fact that there are private servers out there because who wants to spend like 2 years grinding to get to level 200? I know i don’t.
Seriously, I think nexon should stop with the nx cash because first of all, its expensive and second of all, it only lasts like 3 months and then what? We find kids wasting 300$ on nx a month or something. In the halloween patch, there was this map where you had to have nx to get in? What a rip off.
People are going to quit global or simply join another private server. Maple story was fun when it was wizet, but after nexon took over i started to dislike it. Nexon has to deal with the fact that there are private servers or something or just get on with their lives. People are going to keep making private servers so nexon, suck it up.

I hope Finalstory shuts down soon. Right now its the number 1 ps on xtremetop100 but it doesnt deserve that spot as number 1. The server is down like half the time and crashes, rollbacks, lags every single day. And their GM’s are retarded as ever, abusing their GM power. Finalstory better watch out >:P

Nexon… u cant just sit and hide all the time. as i said. i PROMISE that the players would love if the GMs showed themself, helped the people. like give them advices around quests and items and such. instead of just.. like log in 1 time per week and just be invisible and go around and like: “OH! A HACKER”, “banned” “*gaasp* that was hard.. ima log out now..” look at ALL the successfull privateservers. they all got friendly, helpful GMs. they do fun things like summon bosses in ludi from time to time and just being friendly, helpful.. instead of just walk around with the “hide” skill enabled 24/7 and just ban people..

Mr. Hobo, regulr MS, (mainly Global MS in my opinion) has a probelm with the following:
1: Horrible customer service (with regards to NX transactions and purchases)
2: GMs (the moderators) are, if not used to be VERY inactive. Just take a good look on years 2006-2007; those 2 years were filled with hacks, glitches, bots, etc.
3: Global MS specially is lagging behind for a server that was the first Western world server for Maplestory; EuropeMS is catching up EXTREMELY QUICKLY. Also, it lags way behind MapleSEA
And to get on a private server, well….that is sort of easy…..Just go the site of the private server (search for maplestory private servers on a search engine), register an account, then go to the downloads section, follow the instructions, download the game, and voila! You can officially play a private server.

What assholes, people go over to private servers for a reason, they’re alot more fun! Simply suing the big Private servers isn’t going to stop them, or make people go back to Global MS. My server got shut down so you know what I did? I just went to the next best thing. Until Nexon realizes that suing them isn’t the way to go, I guess we just have to put up with the bullshit :/

Duh! it’s not fun the way it is! If you like spending hours upon hours a day for like 3 years to get a high level, then theres something wrong with you, it’s called not having a life.
Private servers let you be high levels, have money , etc. and its fun………..alot more fun then wasting half ur day to get a level
