On June 11, 2008, Nexon created a “Put your character on a iTCG card” contest, which allowed the top 20 in GMS to have a shot at seeing their own face on an iTCG card. Everyone around GMS is advertising their favourite choice and is excited to see who wins. This is just like a high school class president election; it’s all a popularity contest. The voting will end on July 8th, and hopefully we will have a respectable winner!

No, the lawsuit was not fake. NEXON Corporation, the Korean-based branch, has been confirmed as the corporation who is filing the lawsuit against OdinMS. Matze confirmed in the post on Monday that the German court system (LG Hamburg) made an error in trying to make OdinMS pay a fifth of €441,20 (Approximately $69,694.84 USD) which is about $13,738.97 USD. That’s a large chunk of money…although not as much as the total potential fine if OdinMS infact does lose. Here’s the post from OdinMS.de.

Today we received another letter from the LG Hamburg confirming that we don’t have to pay any court costs at the moment.

Since there were some misunderstandings before and most of our readers are most likely not fluent in German let me explain again what has happened so far:

1. Our hoster received a threatening e-mail telling him to immediately take down our servers. We assumed this mail to be fake (which it may still be, but it would fit into the things that happened next) due to the style it was written in and the claim that OdinMS.de stole Nexon America’s code. Of course our hoster did not take any actions after we told him our position on things.
2. We received a bill from the Landgericht (LG) Hamburg which is a German district court about a civil action between NEXON Corporation (which is the Korean parent company) and me. It is a German matter because we and our servers are located in Germany.
   We are unsure about the compentency of the court since we are over 800 km away from Hamburg (our hoster still more than 600 km) and we do not know of a NEXON Corporation subsidiary in Hamburg. In Germany you have to sue someone at his place of residence or if a tortious act is involved, at the place where the act has been committed.
   The front of the letter (which you can review in the previous post) basically stated that I had to pay 441,20€ of court costs. The more interesting information can be found on the back where the calculation of the costs is detailed. It can be deduced that there are independent proceedings for the taking of evidence running right now, which are a pre-trial discovery, most likely involving an independent expert. Usually you get informed if such a proceeding is started against you but is possible that it is still in a very early stage.
   The amount in dispute has been set to 350,000€. This is the amount of money NEXON Corporation is sueing me for. The court costs are calculated based on the amount in dispute and amount to 2,206€ for the independent proceedings for the taking of evidence. According to the bill I had to bear one fifth (441,20€) of those costs. The paragraphs mentioned there are only referring to the laws upon which the calculation is based and don’t have anything to do with the claims NEXON Corporation has against us.
3. Since it is quite unusual that you have to pay court costs before even knowing about the case I called the LG Hamburg to ask about the bill. After telling them the file number they immediately apologized and assured me that I don’t have to pay anything at the moment. However this did not change the fact that the mentioned proceedings including the amount in dispute are real.
4. Now we received the written confirmation of that telephone call. The letter is pretty much identical to the previous one just with the nullification of the court cost claim.
   • There is a a civil action between NEXON Corporation and me currently in the independent proceedings for the taking of evidence
   • NEXON Corporation wants 350,000€
   • Currently I do not have to pay any court costs.

So, what do we know for a fact?

What is happening next?
Since we were not directly contacted by NEXON Corporation it is unlikely for this to happen now.
We should be informed about the accusation or receive a summons by the court. There is no set time for that.

How long will it take?
Legal procedures can take a very long time and are barely limited. It may very well take a few months until we get more information, we can’t know.

What can you do to support us?
Nothing at the moment although we very much appreciate all of the demonstrations of your support we received via e-mail. Please understand that we intentionally disabled the possibility of commenting the blog entries to avoid any further risks.
We will inform you if we see a possibility for you to help us. For now all we can do is wait.

1. You cant click on anyone in ur buddylist so you cant mute, search, delete etc
2. APQ – Only leader can enter
3. You cant set guild notices
4. Pressing your guild hotkey lags you like hell.
5. When you switch from window mode to fullscreen and vice versa, the lil data screen appears at the top right (Alt+f12 thing)
6. The advertising frame gets stuck ontop of everything when you alt tab out.
7. lmpq, only leader gets in
8. No curse filter on macros
9. you only can hold ONE Piece of Cracked Dimension in your ETC. ( I think this was pre patch 56)

16. Skill descriptions still don’t match what they actually do. For example, Berserk doesn’t say 45% now.
17. Got Hyper Bodied out of nowhere in Ariant. weird thing is, it lasted for 15 minutes
18. When entering portal in Ellinia you get dropped randomly in town.
19. If you jump while macroing, it ends when you touch the ground if you’re attacking

23. There is also a glitch in windowed mode when using a mouse scroll wheel to scroll through a window in MS (inventory, skills, macro, shops, etc). It behaves… oddly.

Alright, so it’s a normal day in Maple v.56, right? So this guy was looking around in the cash shop, and look what he found: a dirty Play Boy magazine.

If you have seen the Nexon commercial, it says: “For ages 10 and up.”

With version 0.56 and its summer events, Nexon released another NX item… with the potential to crash MapleStory’s economy: the Bronze Sack. Sold for 500 NX in the Cash Shop, the Bronze Sack contains 1 million mesos at the disposal of the buyer. Says Nexon:

Bronze Sack of Mesos(1million mesos) will be sold at Cash Shop for 2 weeks! (6/19 ~ 7/2) We will be testing out how it is affecting in-game economy and gather user feedbacks. Please feel free to give us feedback!!

Nexon may have truly meant it as an experiment, but during that 2-week period, a lot could happen. Most likely prices will inflate radically because of the extra availability of money, severely inconveniencing the majority of MapleStory’s players, who are non-NX’ers. This is probably one of the biggest benefits Nexon’s ever given to its paying community, and Nexon’s probably hoping to get more people hooked on NX. It may very well prove to be one of Nexon’s most profitable and most controversial commercial ventures.

PhantomBurn, the admin of the HelixStory private server, has notified us that the phone call he allegedly received from Nexon was actually a prank call, traced to its source by its caller ID. OdinMS, however, is actually being sued, so don’t think that they got a “prank bill” in the mail demanding that they pay for copyright infringement.

As some of you may have noticed on the MapleGlobal rankings lots of characters are being put off ranks. Do not worry, this is due to technical issues with the servers during the server check. I myself was also affected…here’s what NX Prose had to say about it:

As some of you noticed, we have some issues this morning. So there’s no misconceptions, I’ll explain what happened.

As most of you have tested on Tespia, you have an idea of what’s coming. Basically, we implemented Ariant, the PQ, Summer Break Events, Gachapon, Cash Shop stuff, and Level 200-related quests. In addition to all this comes the enhanced functionality for the client (windowed mode), game (Guild Alliance, Macros, etc), UI (Item Re-Arrangement, Party Search, etc). By the way, there’s a post that will have all of this information and show you how to work everything.

As you can imagine, this is a lot of work, along with other stuff we have planned but haven’t announced.

Ambitious? Yes. We said big things coming in the summer, and we mean it. The upcoming patches are something we’re all proud of and will deliver in spades.

However, for the moment, our servers are having some technical problems. We recently upgraded everything (which is what the big maintenance was about yesterday), and essentially have been dealing with it since last night. This is affecting the rankings, and some of our internal testing, thus delaying the time we actually wanted to open. We are working as hard as possible to fix this.

So, rather than open the game desipte all this, we’re going to work out the kinks and keep you updated. Right now we’re looking at about 3 hours, so please bear with us. We want to open just as much as you want to play. =)

There is no need for anyone to panic, but the patch will be delayed several hours.
