A Gadget A Week: Hard Disks
A gadget a week!
Give it, give it to me. Quick!
I decided I want to write a (weekly) column about gadgets, cool websites, nice pictures, videos, etc.
And today – hard disks:
Want to make sure no one can use the information from your old hard disk? You can try one of these hard-disk destroying methods:
Neither Orbis nor Maple News Network do not recommend you to try these methods yourself, and are not responsible for any damage that happens to you/your hard disk/your computer, or anything else that happens because you watch these videos. The videos are here just for your enjoyment.
1) Thermite – from Wikipedia:
Thermite is a pyrotechnic composition of aluminium powder and a metal oxide which produces an aluminothermic reaction known as a thermite reaction. It is not explosive, but can create short bursts of extremely high temperatures focused on a very small area for a short period of time.
So, what does it look like when you burn the Thermite with the Hard disk?
This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt0XL_NjX0o
2) Boom!
This method is called the pirate bomb.
Nothing much to say, so here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj5SHrGoJT0
3) A… A hammer?! This is the simplest one. This man is very decisive though!

4) The squasher. You ask, “What is this weird machine?” Well, it was especially made for Hard Disk Squashing. And it does the job pretty well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qImGK8bHjE
5) The… Plasma Slicer/cutter/heater.
This tool combines a very high electric current and compressed gas to create plasma.
Worth viewing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5GKInPlOsg
6) The liquid hard disk!
This time we will heat the hard disk until it is liquid. Kinda
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRr-QFggpfU
7) Train crash.
Well, why not let others do the job? Simply put your hard disk on a railway!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMdDjsLzGBc
8 ) Acetylene welding torch!
Worth waiting until the end of the video because of the nice sound of the metal falling into the water.
Blop! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOIf0JmZfrQ
9) Watch it shred!
Well, why not watch it shred and see the hard disk become little pieces of metal?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQYPCPB1g3o
And now… Want to make sure none of the above influence your hard disk? Want an almost impervious hard disk? You should buy this one:

This hard disk is fire- and waterproof: it can be underwater for up to 24 hours without getting damaged, and can stand 850° C for a short time. If you are wondering, it is made of a material which is a kind of concrete and is used to make safety-deposit boxes.
If you want to recommend a website, video, gadget, picture, or anything else for the next week, please PM me on our forums (I’ll make an EMail for it next week for anyone who isn’t registered on the forums).
Hope you enjoyed it!

Pyrotechnics + Hard drive + Windows = Fun
I edited your post, Orbis. That’s right, I’m actually doing my job again.
